There are times that I forget this and what I need to remember is that it took a lifetime to get where I am, where things were so messed up. I need to remember that I need to give myself time to get out of the muck and mire that I have allowed myself to sink too.
If you are like me and are trying to improve yourself, one of the things that we tend to do is be impatient with ourselves because we are not where we want to be.
“Well… there is no where else to go but up.”
This is true, but the journey “up” may take some time. But the one thing we can do is try to shrink that time so that we can “get there” faster.
How we do this is by putting our nose to the grindstone, working and allowing our efforts to compound.
I tell a lot of people that the fastest way to get there is by baby steps.
So how do we start?
Here are 6 tips that will help you get where you are going faster and cheat the space time continuum that many of us seem to be locked into…
1 – Stop blaming others, you are where you are because of YOU. The faster you can accept this, the sooner you are able to start moving forward. NOTHING can hold YOU back, so stop blaming others about where you are in life and start taking control.
2 – This is a Biggie…Stop Procrastinating. We all have this problem and when you are in the ashes of life and trying to be the phoenix that will rise, telling ourselves we will start tomorrow, or next Monday or whatever… you will never get started. DO IT NOW! Just get the job done.
3 – You can’t do it alone. As much as we think we can, we can’t. When you have others helping you, you cut down that time to grow tomatoes / get to where you want to be in life. You need others around you who care about you, your well being and your journey. Friends, family and mentors are what you need, and you only need a few good chosen people that make up your core relationships. Add to many and you “muddy” the waters and will not get anything done. Me… I have my lovely lady, my parents and a 2-3 friends that I have known forever. I also have a group of men that we help each other and leverage each other’s wisdom and also kick each other in the pants when we need it.
4 – Make time for you first thing every day. When you look at successful people just about all of them have some sort of morning routine. Tony Robbins, Arianna Huffington, and the person who has influenced me, Garret J White. He introduced me to what is called “Core 4.” What this entails is me getting up every day and spending about an hour for me. 15 minutes on my body, 15 minutes meditating / journaling, 15 minutes on business / self-improvement and 15 minutes on relationships. I do this every day and when I get all of it done, I have the power and energy to take on the world. A lot of life’s stresses and such are gone, and I can see the world clearly and attack what I need to attack and get the job done. If you are not going to take care of self, you will never rise from the ashes and or grow tomatoes.
5 – Keep a To-Do List / Write Things Down… This one helps me a lot. WHY? Because when I write things down, I do not have to waste brain power to remember all these little things that need to get done or I need to remember. I keep an 8×10 yellow note pad by my desk and I write down everything. When I get things done or finished, I will scratch them off. About every other day I rip off the paper and put at the top the things I did not get done and work on getting them done.
OH… another thing I use is Alexa for my grocery / shopping list as well as specialized lists that I have created. This way my lovely lady can also keep an eye on things I am doing and help me accomplish tasks or get things at the grocery store. You got to love Alexa. If you have her, leverage her, she does help you stream line things in life.
6 – Finally… Make goals in life. 5 yr, 1 yr,6 month, 3 month, 1 month, weekly and daily goals. You want dreams to come true? Write them down and then figure out how to make those dreams into reality. If you don’t write them down, then all they remain are just that… dreams. There is power in writing down what you want out of life and when you do, your brain works at making those thoughts and dreams into real world realities.
OH… and one last thing, here is an added bonus for those of you who have read this far, kudos to you!
7 – Stop and have fun. What good is all the hard work you are doing to make a better life if you are not stopping to enjoy your efforts? Stop and have fun with those who are special around you. They helped you get where you are, spend time and make memories with those people. One of the best ways is going out and having some fun.
