Civil War 2020 – Quite The Possibility

By Ray Gano

In 1865 the North fought the South in the Civil War. But it was the aftermath five years later, 1870 that the nation faced incredible civil upheaval.

Approximately 50 years later around 1920, worker unrest, racial tensions and anti-Communist sentiment caused another nationwide upsurge of violence.

Jump forward another 50 years later and the Vietnam War and Civil Rights Movement triggered a third peak in violent political, social and racial conflict.

Fifty years after that will be 2020.

If history continues to repeat itself, we can expect a violent upheaval in the United States in a few years and in fact, we are already seeing things coming to a head.

Nothing New Under The Sun

If you have been a reader of mine, you know that I am one who studies history and historical trends.

One verse that I keep pointing to is found in Ecclesiastes…

Ecclesiastes 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

There is nothing new under the sun.

What most people do not realize is that life is not linear, but cyclical. About every 100 years man repeats himself.

There was an incredible book written by Neil Howe and William Strauss titled “Generations: The History of America’s Future, 1584 to 2069” and what they show in this book has basically come to past due to their study of generational trends. Do you know that they even predicted that a man like President Trump would be in office?

This is a book that is very good, easy to read and easy to look things up. They laid it out in a well thought out manner.

I encourage you to get it –  it is well worth the price of $15.00.

Get a highlighter also, you will want to make notes.

Another gentleman that I have picked up on my radar is Peter Turchin, an ecologist, evolutionary biologist and mathematician at the University of Connecticut.

He has actually “proven” that every fifty years we have seen social upheaval as I explained above.

In his book “Age of Discord” he has given a lot of evidence, math and history showing that there is a very good chance that we will see some form of upheaval in 2020.

Turchin has led the development of a field of study called “cliodynamics,” in which scientists attempt to find meaningful patterns in history much like Strauss & Howe did with their book “Generations.”

Now, a lot of this does flie in the face of the traditional study of history, which assumes the traditional variables interacting in a society lead that often leads to chaotic upheaval, violence and social unrest.

Now interestingly enough, all this falls in line with scripture as well.

We know that we will be living in parlous times, we read about that in Timothy.

We know that there will wars and rumors of wars, we read that in Matthew.

So, having chaotic upheaval is very plausible and I truly believe that it is going to come.

Our Hearts Turning Cold & It Is Provable

A couple of weeks ago I wrote the article – “Somewhere Along The Line We Seem To Have Lost The Compassion “ while doing research for this article I came across another gentleman named Robert Putnam.

In 1995 article by Robert Putnam, “The Strange Disappearance of Civic America.”  In this article he shows that over the last 20 years that he has been documenting the decline of ‘social capital’ in America.

Putnam has argued, in particular, that last several decades he has seen lower levels of trust in government, lower levels of civic participation, lower connectedness among ordinary Americans, and lower social cooperation.

In other words, our hearts are growing cold.

This is a puzzling development, because from its inception the American society was characterized, to an unusual degree, by the density of associational ties and an abundance and a willingness to share said abundance.

In fact, almost 200 years ago Alexis de Tocqueville, wrote about the exceptional ability of Americans to form bonds and friendships to cooperate in solving problems that required more of a collective action vs the individual.

This willing to cooperate, give and help boost up the nation lasted into the post-World War II era, but several indicators suggest that during the last 3-4 decades it has been unraveling.

Putnam points to such indicators as the participation rate in voluntary organizations (Church & Religious organizations, Parent-Teacher Associations, sports clubs and bowling leagues…)

If Between 1900 and 1960 the general trend for the mean membership rate was to increase, but as you can see on this chart above, it was during the 1970s the trend reversed itself. Instead of being the keeper of your brother, we have become selfish and it is now all about “ME.”

And as you can also see participation has been declining ever since.

Another indicator is the level of generalized trust, including trust in such institutions as the state.

Putnam’s thesis has been quite controversial. But during the two decades since he first proposed it (1995)  various measures of social trust continued to decline, and this in turn strengthened his case showing that the US as a whole is becoming very cold hearted.

Matthew 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

I strongly believe that the social upheaval that we may see in a couple years will be primarily started by the left, Marxists, socialists and other haters of Godly Freedom.

I think we are moving into some very interesting days ahead.

In future articles I hope to share with you some ideas and other things that we need to think about and start acting up on for ourselves and for our family’s sakes.

There is this storm coming and all of us see it, there is no denying that fact.

I also believe that God is NOT going to come rapture us just because there is social upheaval.

So, we will need to know what to do and have plans in place.

I hope that Tracye and I will be able to help you with our knowledge.

One thing I am researching is home churches and putting together small groups. I think this will be an important skill that will be possibly needed.
